JDS BRS alliance

JDS lead by Deve Gowda and his family in Karnataka had welcomed the new BRS party ‘s attempt to become a national party. Kumaraswamy the EX-Chief minister of Karnataka and the sone of the JDS chief had announced that it would contest elections inthe alliance with the BRS. JDS had become the only major party which had openly supported the KCR’s BRS party and expressed it’s interest to work closely them. After all, Why JDS is so keen in contesting along with BRS?

Similarities between JDS and BRS .

  • Both formed as regional parties and tried emerging as national forces.
  • Both are pure examples of Family and Dynasty Politics.
  • Deve Gowda groomed his Son and made him Chief minister while KCR is trying to make his son the next CM.
  • JDs is supported and Dominated by Vokkaliga Caste while TRS (BRS ) is supported and Dominated by Velama Caste.
  • Both the families earned huge wealth and properties in their decades of politics.
  • BJP is becoming a threat to both the parties and couple of more victories of BJP in the respective states will completely end the JDS and TRS rules.

Why JDS is eager to form alliance with TRS ?

Well, there are many regional parties which are dominated and controlled by a Family or power ful caste like YSRCP, TDP , DMK of Tamil nadu, SP of UP etc… But none of these are showing any interest as of now to work with BRS but only the JDS.

Because JDS realised that BRS can easily influence the Karnataka politics and help JDS in garnering more votes.

Let’s find out how JDS can be helped by BRS in gaining more votes.

The below image will give a clear picture of actual problem being faced by JDS in Karnataka :

JDS is still strong and influential in southern karnataka where the Vokkaligas and Muslims are majority and influential. However, it is struggling to gain foothold in the northern karnataka as the North region is dominated by the Lingayats. Depending on the wave, either BJP or Congress have been sharing the victories here. Since the JDS vote bank is less, even the Muslims and other minorities prefer to vote for Congress in northern part of Karnataka.

JDS has been trying to find solution to get stronger here but could not find ways.

JDS BRS alliance will help JDS to acquire almost 15+ seats in Northern and central east Karnataka Region

The Northern Karnataka and the central east regions are closer to Hyderabad city and most of the area was part of Hyderabad karnataka before Independence. The places like Bidar, Gurmitkal, Bellary , Raichur etc has significant Telugu population . Some of the villages around Bidar showed interest in joining Telangana and have approached KCR in the recent past.

Therefore, if BRS joins hands with JDS, the vote share of JDS would be significantly improved in this area and it would help in getting those required 20+ seats which can help the Vokkaliga dominated party to gain power in the Karnataka.

There are around 20 constituencies which share close bond with Telangana region and has good Telugu population in karnataka east border in which BRS can easily grab 10-20% of vote share. Though it might not help BRS much, but if JDS forms alliance with BRS and contests from atleast 15 (Leaving MP seats to BRS ) , the vote % of JDS can rise from existing 20% to 35% in the north region which can help JDS to get closer to the majority.

KCR would not mind getting More than couple of Assembly seats in Karnataka as his main aim is about getting Parliament seats. So the BRS – JDS alliance would work on the condition that JDS should be benefitted in Assembly elections and BRS in the Parliament elections.
